The 100 Day Project: Week 1

Some friends and I are participating in the 100 Day Project. You choose one action to repeat everyday for 100 days. E.g. write a 100 page book, draw your dreams for 100 days, take 100 photos. I first heard about the 100 Day Project on The Great Discontent and San Francisco based artist, Elle Luna. "It's not about fetishising finished products—it’s about the process." Sounded perfect to me. I chose to do 100 Days of Fashion Illustrations (#100DaysOfFashionIllustrationsByKTG). You can see my daily posts on Instagram here but I thought I'd also do an update each week on my blog. So here's week uno...

Painting: In The Greenhouse

This painting was coming along nicely, but then, as usual, I went a bit crazy and made some mistakes by rushing. There's still some parts that I'm happy with. I really love this photo, so I think I'll definitely revisit it sometime. Oh well, onwards and upwards....

Fashion Illustration: Soft pink and blue jeans

Working on minimal colour palette and leaving more white paper in this watercolour illustration. The non-permanent ink pen worked beautifully - loved how it ran everywhere.

Painting: Gucci Girl

'Gucci Girl' - her hair didn't turn out exactly as I'd imagined. This 'granny' look from Gucci is so great and I love the addition of the beanie.

Fashion Illustration: LONDON COLLEGE OF FASHION

Good news, everyone - I got some Windsor & Newton watercolour paints for my birthday! I couldn’t wait to start this illustration of a gorgeous japanese/space inspired creation from the London College of Fashion BA15 graduates catwalk found on the ASVOF blog.

Summer

Last summer I took a cheap disposable film camera to the beach. The colours on the horizon were so beautiful. I only recently got the negatives developed and I love the scratchy, graininess of the 35mm film which gives this photo the perfect nostalgic feeling, because at the moment hot, sunny beach days seem like a forgotten past.

Fashion Illustration: Saint Laurent

This Saint Laurent outfit trending on Style.com is PERFECT! Absolutely love everything about it - the jacket, dress, brooch, makeup, the colours, it's so perfect.

Also, I'm working on my restraint. Less paint is more.

Chuck Taylors

It may not be the 90s anymore, but I still love illustrating my much-loved pink chambray Chuck Taylor All Stars.

Tavi 4 Alexis

I used the great photo of Tavi Gevinson from Alexis Bittar's Spring 2015 campaign as inspiration for a watercolour painting. The soft washed out pastel colours are perfect for it!

Alexis said on his Instagram account:
"Preview of Spring 2015 ad campaign...celebrating strong women who do not conform!!..starting with Tavi Gevinson who's incredible vision is powerful..not to mention she's just getting started at 19 years old..."

FASHION ILLUSTRATION

My first attempt at fashion illustration. Solange Knowles at the Met Gala 2015 wearing an amazing Giles dress. Definite room for improvement but I think it turned out okay.

STATE SCHOOL RELIEF BENEFIT

I'm a little late with this as the fundraiser has already passed, but here is the poster I made, which is of an underwater classroom and a school of fish attendees.

PAINTING OF BEAU

Yesterday I found some time to do this watercolour painting of my ol' family pet dog, Beau. Over the years I've done lots of paintings and drawings using the only photograph I have of her in my possession, but I think this one is the best I've done to date.

A STUDY OF LIGHT

One thing I like at least as much, possibly more than colour, is light. Documenting an afternoon hike in Mansfield. 35mm film.
